Jim Bere’s father was a successful CEO of a Fortune 500 company, carving a legacy for himself as a leader, not only in business, but in and for the community. “He always encouraged his five children to do whatever it is we wanted to do and I heeded that advice throughout my life and career,” said Bere, the chairman and CEO of Alta Resources.
“Inspired by my dad, I wanted to explore opportunities to start a business,” said Bere. “I figured I would learn more trying on my own and failing than I would in succeeding in someone else’s company.”
Fortunately, when launching Alta Resources, Bere did succeed. Alta Resources is a customer experience, business process outsourcing company. The firm specializes in serving Fortune 100 and 500 organizations in the consumer package goods, entertainment and health care and insurance industries.
The last three years have been particularly exciting at Alta as Bere and his team continue to partner with Fortune 500 companies whose reputation is held with high regard. In 2022, Alta Resources added capabilities for clients to cover all of South America as part of a global geographic expansion effort, doubling in size from 4,000 to 8,000 employees. In addition, the company has been named to the Inc. 500 Fastest-Growing Companies in the U.S. twice and Forbes’ List for Best Mid-Sized Employers.
“What I’m most excited about is the next generation of leadership at Alta unfolding,” said Bere. “We have begun to implement structural leadership changes within our organization and many of these leaders have been with Alta since the beginnings of their careers.”
Bere said he believes in hiring experts in their own right and letting them thrive, because no one can do the work alone and it’s important to recognize when they don’t know something.
“You must be willing to recognize what you don’t know and what weaknesses you have, making sure that you’re building your team around those strengths and weaknesses,” he said. “I think the ability to attract leaders who could make this company go another generation and be relevant and competitive and growing is what makes an organization like Alta thrive.”
According to Bere, people are his business. “In our business, you don’t buy some super-powered machine or manufacture innovative products – you just have people,” he said. “Our people are not only responsible for what we do as a business; they are our business.”
For his commitment to business and people, Bere has been named a Titan 100.
