Julian Sisneros embarked on his journey as the director of surveying and mapping at HCL Engineering and Surveying in 2017, taking charge of a survey department with a modest three-person team and a limited client base. Over the course of six years, his transformative leadership reshaped the department into a powerhouse, now boasting a team of 20 employees and standing as the primary revenue driver for the company.
“Under Julian’s guidance, the survey department’s growth has been nothing short of remarkable, reflecting his keen strategic vision and management prowess,” said his colleagues. “This success story extends beyond the department itself, as Julian’s exceptional leadership has propelled him to the esteemed position of president within the company.”
HCL Engineering and Surveying is an architecture, engineering, surveying and construction firm with a mission to provide quality and innovative professional services and create a one-stop shop for its clients with in-house architects, engineers and surveyors.
The consistent year-over-year growth in both revenue and personnel stands as a testament to Sisneros’ commitment to scaling and fostering sustained development. Under his stewardship, the company has also solidified its position as a frontrunner among small businesses in the architecture, engineering and construction industry.
He has been instrumental in securing contracts at Denver International Airport and has been involved in significant ventures like Central 70, Floyd Hill, and the United Airlines Flight Simulator project. In addition, Sisneros created a new Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) division, recognizing the growing demand for comprehensive utility mapping services in engineering projects.
“Julian has demonstrated a forward-thinking approach by developing an organic growth model that not only fosters a culture of continuous improvement but also emphasizes training and promoting talent from within the organization,” said his staff. “By nurturing and advancing the skills of existing team members, Julian ensures a sustainable and resilient workforce that aligns with the company’s long-term objectives.”
Sisneros has also demonstrated a fervent pursuit of supporting the community with roles as a board member for the Hispanic Contractors of Colorado, the Contractor Academy, and the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado.
Considering the advice he would give to his younger self, Sisneros said he would emphasize the importance of authenticity as a leader. “I would advise my younger self to embrace the wisdom to stay true to my essence, and cherish my roots,” he said. “Authenticity remains a guiding force, grounding me amidst life’s complexities and recognizing that all people share a common humanity fosters empathy and connections.”
