In 2017, when Tony Frick was tapped by fellow board members of HUSK (then GlobalFit) to take the helm, the company was on the verge of collapse. With revenue completely reliant on selling discounted gym memberships, the 25-year-old company had become stagnant and unprofitable. A passionate wellness advocate, Frick recognized that the company was underserved from a leadership and strategic standpoint and had fallen out of touch with customers’ needs, but he still could envision the company’s untapped potential.
Frick guided expansion to develop a wider variety of sustainable wellness opportunities, ultimately leading to a profitable company within five months. Annualized revenue has doubled under Frick’s leadership and the firm rebranded to HUSK in 2022.
HUSK is a multi-solution national tech company that has developed industry-leading solutions that more actively empower and engage consumers in their own health, build a healthier population, provide better access and reduce healthcare costs. HUSK has developed six wellness verticals that deliver best-in-class solutions to meet the needs of the modern employer, insurer, and consumer, seeking to make clinical visits as affordable and convenient as possible.
Under Frick’s leadership, the HUSK team has quadrupled, comprising 148 people who support 4,500 clients domestically and internationally. In addition, the firm acquired Nutrition in Motion and launched HUSK Pro, a practice management and electronic health record solution combining medical record, billing, marketing, sales and accounting tools to ease admin burdens so clinicians can focus on patients.
Frick’s efforts earned him recognition as a Philadelphia Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree, and HUSK was named a PBJ Soaring 76 company. “Tony’s most notable achievements are reflected in the media stories and honors he has received that focus on his leadership and the HUSK corporate turnaround,” said his staff. “Tony takes great pride in developing and mentoring a team and providing opportunities to grow personally and professionally, to achieve their full potential.”
He is also known for taking a collaborative approach when solving complex problems. “HUSK is a meritocracy of ideas and regardless of rank or title, at HUSK, the best idea wins,” he said. “It is my job as chief executive officer to make sure the best idea wins, and appropriate resources are deployed to ensure success.”
If Frick could give his younger self advice, it would be to trust your instincts and avoid second-guessing decisions. “Early in my career, I would have appreciated the advice to not second-guess decisions, especially when you are executing based on data and choices you know to be right in your heart,” he said. “When you are well prepared, trust that your decisions are sound.”
