In 2021, Tampa General Hospital established its first-ever physician enterprise focused on patient access and market expansion, allowing patients who required tertiary and quaternary care to have a network of specialists and critical care providers who could ensure the highest acuity of care could be offered in the State of Florida.
To lead this effort and start the development of this network which would change the trajectory of the competitive landscape in healthcare across the state of Florida, Teddi Barber was recruited to build and develop this first-ever network from the Treasure Coast through Tampa Bay.
Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Florida Urology Partners is a comprehensive urology group made up of exceptionally trained, highly specialized and nationally recognized physicians. Utilizing the latest technological advancements available in medicine, the organization provides superior patient care at its urology and radiation oncology offices in the greater Tampa Bay region.
Over the course of nearly two years, under Barbers leadership, the network successfully grew from four physicians to nearly 100 providers (physicians and advanced practice practitioners) across more than four specialties. Over the course of this past year, Barber was instrumental in launching new sub-specialty care pathways, increasing clinical research trials, improving the organizations net operating margins by significant measures, and deploying new programs focused on patient navigation and improving the cost of care delivery.
In my role as chief operating officer, it is my goal to not only create and support tremendous pathways for strategic growth, patient access points, and continuity of care but to also create a culture and environment of world-class team members that will survive long after I am gone, said Barber. It is my goal that this will be a company that will be part of my legacy of what I was able to create for the greater good of the medical community and our team members.
Barbers contributions to the healthcare community have been acknowledged with recognition as a top women in business by Tampa Bay Business & Wealth magazine, best in class by BOSS Magazine (a national industry-focused publication) and she was the recipient of the research mission award by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in recognition of her philanthropic contributions to cancer research.
As a leader, Barber said she embraces a servant-leader mindset. As servant leaders, we are focused on identifying value maximizers, early adopters, and innovators, wherever they find themselves in the organization, to continually challenge the boundaries of the organization’s core competencies and processes, she said. Successful leaders consistently demonstrate authenticity, vulnerability, transparency, loyalty, and a protectiveness of their employees and the long-term viability of the organization.
