Tine Hansen-Turton

President & CEO

Woods System of Care

Location: Langhorne, PA

Founded: 1913

Industry: Healthcare

Tine Hansen-Turton has led an organizational transformation at Woods System of Care, shifting the company from a human services model to a healthcare-focused organization.

Woods System of Care, founded in 1913, is a leading and innovative nonprofit population health network based in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The organization provides a lifelong continuum of comprehensive care and support to more than 22,000 children and adults with complex medical and behavioral healthcare needs, intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism. Woods’ services include mental and physical healthcare, education, housing, residential treatment and workforce training and development.

Since her arrival in 2016, Hansen-Turton has created a vision and strategic direction that positions the organization as a premier health management organization. She has championed change-management principles to engage staff and prioritized the well-being and growth of Woods’ employees by implementing innovative benefits, such as defined career pathways and educational opportunities for advancement, the company said.

Hansen-Turton created critical positions within Woods, including a director of strategic development and a vice president for government relations. These positions have helped drive program development, expansion and systemic changes within the human services sector.

“Assuming leadership of an organization that required significant change and transformation in order to remain relevant was a career risk, but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my career,” Hansen-Turton said. “In spite of many obstacles, over the past six years, we transformed a residential services provider to become the Woods System of Care, now the leading population health management organization. Through our network of providers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, we provide life-cycle care to meet the lifelong needs of children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism (IDD), acquired brain injuries and/or mental health challenges who may also have complex medical and genetic conditions.”

Hansen-Turton envisions Woods System of Care expanding its network of care through strategic partnerships with government agencies, healthcare organizations and other health and human services providers.

Hansen-Turton has been recognized for her achievements with numerous awards, including Philadelphia Business Journal’s 40 Under 40, Women of Distinction and Most Admired CEO awards. She serves on the boards of various organizations and is a sought-after speaker and facilitator in the healthcare industry.

She is also founder and publisher of a social impact/innovation journal, “Social Innovations Journal,” and has co-published nine books on leadership, social innovation and the health and human services sector.

Most recently, Hansen-Turton co-edited a book about Woods’ transformation titled “Thriving Through Transformation: A Practical Guide to Creating Organizational Change in the Social Sector.”

She is also a fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and serves on the Board of the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Region, the Committee of Seventy, Convenient Care Association, PAR, William Penn Human Services, Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, Commissioned Officers Alliance and ProVantaCare.
