Leigh Segall joined Smart Communications as the chief marketing officer shortly after the company was acquired. She immediately assumed responsibility for building and executing an aggressive global marketing strategy, contributing to the company’s explosive double digit growth year-over-year while tripling in revenue since the start of the company.
Her efforts earned Segall a promotion to chief strategy officer, then president and then to CEO in November 2023. “While Segall’s new role as CEO is demanding from an executive leadership level, she prioritizes time to make sure she is connecting with employees,” said her staff. This includes routinely meeting in smaller groups to share insights or by helping to organize a company volunteer day to beautify greenspace in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park.
“It’s her commitment to building connections amongst employees that is essential to this high-performing company,” said her staff.
Smart Communications provides the SaaS platform that leading organizations trust to deliver personalized, consistent and compliant conversations across all touchpoints and channels. The Conversation Cloud consists of a SmartCOMM for enterprise-scale customer communications, a SmartIQ for digital forms transformation and a Smart DX for trade documentation. Over 650 enterprise organizations across the globe rely on Smart Communications to simplify and automate complex processes and deliver highly secure, frictionless experiences across the customer lifecycle.
Under the leadership of Segall, Smart Communications has rebranded and relaunched as a stand-alone company after acquisition by Accel-KKR in 2016. She has guided the firm through the acquisitions of two companies and led and expanded the global marketing department from four to 40 employees. As a result, Smart Communications was named as a leader in three analyst technology evaluations and was recognized in the IDC Fintech Rankings while receiving the Xplor International Technology of the Year Award.
Dedicated to embracing sustainability as a fundamental part of Smart Communications’ business philosophy, Segall spearheaded an internal task force to examine its environmental stewardship, social responsibility and ethical governance.
As a leader, Segall said her goal is to be an active listener. “I’m comfortable not knowing all the answers and sharing openly my vulnerabilities so that I can listen to experts and benefit from the strengths of the team around me,” she said. “I know and state often that I don’t have every answer, but without question, we have the best team in the industry and an ability to solve anything if we bring the right folks together.”
