Jeffrey Manion comes from a family of entrepreneurs, where he worked in a wholesale foods distribution business from the age of 15, loading trucks to make his way to an outside sales position at 19.
He went back to school and graduated with a finance degree. He forged a successful career with skills in both sales and accounting, and eventually he shifted into a midsize business space in an he was not familiar withcommunications. He earned the trust of the DSC Communications organization over a short period of time, and as CEO Manion has led his company to surpass its goals.
“If you have great people surrounding you that are all held accountable, including yourself, the business will continue to move in the right direction,” Manion said. “I’ve learned that employees want transparency and to know that we are a strong and flourishing company. I started from the bottom working by washing trucks at 15 years old and learned that hard work is important in addition to communication, honesty and humility. I’m not afraid to let people know when I’m wrong.”
DSC Communications is Motorola’s largest dealer in Wisconsin and Minnesota. In October 2021, the company acquired Granite Electronics, a St. Cloud-based provider of communications systems and devices for public safety, industrial and commercial clients.
In the next five years, DSC Communications aims to grow its associate headcount and service area in Wisconsin and the surrounding states. “We anticipate another company acquisition tripling our original company size and continuing to expand our presence as the top Motorola telecommunication provider in the Midwest,” the company said. “We will continue to work closely with public safety officials in the state of Wisconsin to ensure reliable communication for police officers, EMTs and firefighters as they respond to emergencies, depending on our radios, cameras and services. We will grow our service area throughout the Midwest region, including Wisconsin, Minnesota and the surrounding states, being the top choice provider for telecommunications.”
Manion provides financial support to local student organizations such as STEM Summer Camp, Just for Kids dental care for low-income children and Drug- Free Senior Night Graduation party. He has served as a member on several local boards of directors, including the Superior-Douglas County Family YMCA, Superior- Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, Boys & Girls Club of the Northland and Duluth Figure Skating Club, to name a few. He also volunteers as a coach for the local youth soccer league and is a mentor to new business entrepreneurs in the area.
