Craig Wiedmeier 2023

Craig Wiedemeier

President

Werner Electric Supply Co.

Location: Outagamie County, WI

Founded: 1948

Industry: Wholesale Electrical Distribution

Craig Wiedemeier got his start at Werner Electric Supply with no experience in electrical distribution. What he did have, though, was an extensive background in manufacturing

The business at that point was limited by its operations capacity, and this gave Wiedemeier an opportunity to leverage his background for Werner’s benefit.

At Wiedemeier’s recommendation, the company secured a vacant property and, over 16 months, built a new 250,000-square-foot facility that today serves as a regional distribution center and company headquarters. The facility tripled Werner’s operational capacity.

Four years ago, Wiedemeier was promoted to chief operating officer, and two years ago he was named president. With Wiedemeier’s help, business has nearly doubled since 2012, and Werner continues to grow its capabilities to serve its customers.

Despite that incredible success, Wiedemeier said it’s important to stay humble, challenge assumptions and build a strong team.

“I believe it is important to stay grounded, keeping my personal and professional goals aligned,” he said. “We will continue to enjoy success as a team if we keep challenging the status quo and surround ourselves with a talented, driven, value-based team.”

Werner, a family-owned business, defines its company culture with “The Werner Way”the unwavering commitment to its customers, families, communities and each other.

“We take our culture seriously and understand the importance of creating an environment where everyone can do their best work,” Wiedemeier said. “Over the past few years, our team was able to quickly pivot how we do business with our customers when faced with the challenges of COVID and an inconsistent supply chain. By leveraging this continuous improvement mindset, our teams quickly adapted, resulting in significant growth the past few years.

“This approach has served us well and has instilled confidence in the team to overcome whatever new challenges we may be faced with as we move past the COVID and supply chain-induced issues.”

Werner will celebrate its 75th year in business in 2023. Wiedemeier said he’s not only proud of the company’s success, but also how it has grown jobs in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The company employs 450 people, offers competitive benefits, has associate recognition programs and development and supports local communities through philanthropic work, Wiedemeier said.

“The pride I have working for Werner goes far beyond the successful financials and new service offerings,” he said. “It encompasses all the hard working, talented employees I have the privilege of working with. My hope is that, with the help of a highly engaged and talented team, we have laid the groundwork for success not only in the near-term but for many years to come.”
