Rose Thompson

Chief Operating Officer

ButcherJoseph & Co

Location: St. Louis, MO

Founded: 2011

Industry: Financial Services

Rose Thompson has been part of ButcherJoseph & Co. for nearly a decade. In 2020, she moved into the role of Chief Operating Officer.

“I have never regretted going all in on any major decision, and that includes my career,” she said. “This is where tenacity and resilience come into play. I also do not view many things as a sacrifice. If something is truly important to my family and me, then everything it takes to reach the goal is part of the process.”

ButcherJoseph & Co. is an investment bank specializing in M&A advisory services for middle market companies. The company is focused on providing a full spectrum of liquidity options for its clients, including traditional sell-side and buy-side M&A, ESOP buyouts and recapitalizations, and capital advisory.

As COO, Thompson works to streamline processes that impact productivity and the client experience. But her biggest responsibility, she says, is to “truly care about our people and foster opportunities for them to grow and succeed.”

One of the accomplishments that makes Thompson most proud is the firm’s employee retention. The average tenure exceeds six years — not bad for an organization founded 11 years prior.

“This past year, we heard phrases in the business world like ‘quiet quitting’ and ‘nobody wants to work anymore,’ but I don’t think either of those are entirely accurate depictions of the shifts we’re seeing in the American workforce,” said Thompson.

“As employers and members of our respective communities, we have a duty of care to our colleagues and their families that many companies mistakenly overlook. Businesses are quick to pass the blame onto their workforce without taking an earnest look at their compensation plans, benefit offerings, on-the-job training and development, and the expectations they place on their employees.

“The companies that hold themselves accountable and align interests with their employees and customers will become the most durable and sought-after businesses. This is a barometer we focus on at ButcherJoseph, and while we still have work to do, we have come a very long way in a short period of time.”

Did you know?

I am a creature who thrives on connection and ongoing development. I’ll be honest – when I learned I was part of the inaugural Titan 100 class in St. Louis, I struggled with some imposter syndrome. I looked at the caliber of people being recognized and initially struggled to believe I belonged in this group. For nearly every stage of my life, I have always had to fight to prove my worth and belongingness in every room I wanted to be. It was interesting to learn at some of my first Titan 100 events that I was not alone in this experience and feeling. It’s been a true honor to build relationships with my fellow Titans. Having opportunities to connect socially, celebrate our work, share best practices, and give back to our community all fuel the fire in my belly and I am so grateful for the experience.
