Patrick W Rasche

Managing Partner

Armstrong Teasdale

Location: St. Louis, MO

Founded: 1901

Industry: Law

Patrick W. Rasche earned his genetic engineering degree from Purdue University, then took what he described as a “nontraditional” path and opted for law school to become a patent attorney.

“It was the idea of embarking on something new and different that intrigued me about this path,” he said. “Needless to say, the experience took me totally outside of my comfort zone, and it helped me to become flexible and adaptable. Those traits served me well while I was practicing as a patent attorney, and they serve me even better as managing partner of Armstrong Teasdale.”

Armstrong Teasdale is a law firm and member of Lex Mundi, a global association of 160 independent law firms with locations in more than 125 countries, and the United States Law Firm Group, a network of 17 law firms headquartered in major U.S. cities. The firm is listed in the Am Law 200, published by The American Lawyer, and the NLJ 250, published by The National Law Journal. The firm’s mission statement is, “Always exceed expectations through teamwork and excellent client service.”

In 2021, Rasche was elected managing partner. He also served on the firm’s Compensation Committee and was leader of the Intellectual Property practice group for 17 years.

During Rasche’s tenure as managing partner, the firm has expanded into three new markets — Miami, Washington, D.C., and Dublin — and added over 200 new lawyers and staff professionals. Rasche has championed efforts to add or improve programming, training and talent development, financial growth and diversity, the firm said.

“Pat has also given increased focus to our Intellectual Property growth, given his background,” the firm said. “He was instrumental in bringing on a team of esteemed IP practitioners in London in 2022 and has grown the practice across firm markets with high-profile hires in the patent space especially.”

Founded in 1901, Armstrong Teasdale outlined a strategic plan as it approached its 120-year anniversary. The plan focused on growth, development and support for employees. Rausche is credited with prioritizing making everyone at the firm, in any role and in any office, feel part of the larger operation and a piece of “one firm,” his colleagues said.
Rasche has received several recognitions, including being named among The Best Lawyers in America for Patent Law since 2015, among Chambers USA’s Leading Lawyers for Intellectual Property since 2012, and among Managing IP’s IP Stars since 2016.
