Honoree Headshot

Brad Leavitt

Founder, Owner & President
AFT Construction

Location: Scottsdale
Founded: 2013
Industry: Construction
*2nd Year Honoree*

In his role as founder, owner and president of ATF Construction, Brad Leavitt has assembled a team with more than 110 years of combined custom home building experience. This team, coupled with their commitment to customer service, sets AFT Construction apart in the industry, the company said.

“The smartest people in the room are typically those that speak the least,” Leavitt said. “There is much to gain as you listen to your team and your employees. It also creates opportunities for them to raise the bar of the company and live up to the empowerment.”

Established in 2013, AFT Construction has become renowned for its residential and commercial projects in the greater Phoenix area. With a focus on modern techniques, innovative materials and architectural design, AFT Construction has gained recognition as an award-winning construction company, earning national publications in prestigious magazines such as Fine Home Building, Luxe Interiors and Design and Professional Builder, the company said.

As AFT Construction continues to thrive, Leavitt has set his sights on expanding into other markets across the United States, exploring opportunities in the South, East Coast and Mountain regions. The company's podcast has experienced significant growth, with a nearly 50% increase in viewership and a growing listener base.

AFT Construction recently completed the National Home of the Year, a fully sustainable "net-zero" custom home that produces as much energy as it consumes. By sourcing materials locally, AFT Construction aims to lower the carbon footprint and raise awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship in the building industry.

Leavitt prioritizes mentoring young professionals and entrepreneurs, and he initiated a course and summit designed to educate builders from across the country on the intricacies of running a construction business. He partnered with fellow builders to launch a three-day summit. Since its inception in 2022, the program has attracted more than 70 attendees. The course covers topics that include profit, scheduling, management, client experience, social media, marketing and organization.

Leavitt’s interest in helping the next generation of construction leaders is fueled by his own experience, which lacked a mentor to guide him through the ups and downs of running a business.

“When I started my company, I didn't have a mentor to teach me the ins and outs of running a business,” Leavitt said. “There was so much trial and error and it is hard to make mistakes and still be profitable. Many companies in our construction industry fail because it is so hard to run a service and fee business.”
