Dan Gerelick

CFO

Bluum

Location: Phoenix

Founded: 1981

Industry: Education Technology

As the CFO of Bluum, Dan Gerelick has played a crucial role in integrating accounting systems and teams from multiple acquisitions, streamlining processes and establishing a business intelligence database. Gerelick has managed cash flow, optimized EBITDA performance and expanded credit lines to support the education technology firm’s operations and growth.

“At Bluum, everything we do is driven by our vision to create a future where everyone has access to a great education,” the company said. “By empowering educators and students with technology, we’re creating a fast track to a world where every child is equipped with the knowledge to reach their highest potential.”

Gerelick has implemented cost reduction measures, managed inventory levels and improved receivables management to maintain financial stability and support the company’s long-term goals, the company said.

“One of the keys to success in my career has been taking on unpopular projects or assignments that others may not want to do,” Gerelick said. “This has ranged from roles to accounts payable supervisor, leading the Latin America finance team when I don’t speak Spanish, or taking on a role made up entirely of special projects. These roles turned out to be a significant challenge and required me to go against the grain and take on tasks that others may view as unimportant or not worth the effort. However, taking on such projects has been a key factor in my success.

“By tackling unpopular tasks, I was able to demonstrate my commitment to the organization’s goals and willingness to take on challenges that others may shy away from. This helped to build my reputation as a capable and reliable leader who is willing to do what it takes to achieve success. In addition, taking on unpopular projects can also provide me with opportunities for growth and development that I wouldn’t have been exposed to if I chose the safe path. By working on challenging assignments, I was able to develop new skills, gain valuable experience, and demonstrate my ability to take on leadership roles.”

Gerelick embodies Bluum’s core values of passion, ownership, empathy and courage, the company said.
“Others from across the organization frequently call on Dan for quick and solid decisions on challenges and business issues,” the company said. “His team has also picked up on how Dan leads with courage, and they are also starting to model this behavior in their own actions and interactions. The power of courage is a critical leadership lesson that can inspire and guide leaders to achieve their best. By taking bold action, taking risks, standing up for what is right and inspiring others, courage creates a positive and impactful culture that drives success.”
