Jon Katz

President & CEO

Bestwork Industries for the Blind Inc.

Location: Cherry Hills, PA

Founded: 1981

Industry: Nonprofit

Jon Katz’s leadership journey began in the Marine Corps, where he served for more than 20 years in various roles, including infantry, logistics, acquisition and recruiting. His ability to drive change and lead high-performing teams was evident when he piloted the Marine Corps’ first credit card program, earning the Commander in Chief ’s Award for Excellence. Katz also led successful continual process improvement initiatives and received recognition for his exceptional leadership in logistics support.

After retiring from the Marine Corps, Katz continued to excel in his corporate career. As vice president of business development at National Industries for the Blind, he played a key role in expanding the organization’s employment resources for people who are blind. He also contributed to substantial growth in sales and market expansion.

In his current role as president and chief executive officer of Bestwork Industries for the Blind, Katz is leading the transformation of the nonprofit agency into a full-service social enterprise. Bestwork Industries for the Blind is the largest employer in New Jersey for people who are blind, providing training and employment opportunities in a supportive work environment.

“The most important risk I took was accepting the job at Bestwork,” Katz said. “I left a good, stable job as a vice president at National Industries for the Blind in Virginia, relocated to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, even though my family remains in Virginia, and purchased a home in a tight, competitive market. Despite all that, I know I made the right decision.

“There’s something special about Bestwork. I felt it from the very beginning. I already possess a strong sense of service, and wanting to do something for the greater good, but this was a higher calling. Being where ‘the rubber meets the road’ and leading this organization into the next phase is something bigger than myself. I’m excited for this adventure and what the future holds.”

Bestwork’s mission is to improve the quality of life for people who are blind by offering training and employment opportunities. With a focus on upward mobility and rehabilitation services, the organization aims to empower individuals to achieve and maintain economic independence, the nonprofit said. Katz has successfully launched new business lines, including a kitting operation for the U.S. Armed Forces and an e-commerce store, expanding job opportunities.

Katz is involved in creating a sight center that offers low-vision clinics, assistive technology centers and vocational and rehabilitative services.

Katz was named one of Philadelphia Business Journal’s Veterans of Influence. He holds degrees in business administration, acquisition and contract management, as well as national security and strategic studies.
