Richard L. Winter

President

Garden View Care Center

Location: St. Louis, MO

Founded: 1988

Industry: Nursing Home Care

In the early 1980s, Richard L. Winter provided two types of consulting services to healthcare companies. Primarily, he helped them get opportunities to purchase an existing healthcare facility or to open a new one. Secondly, he helped struggling companies obtain financing to address other internal problems. By 1988, he founded Garden View Care Center with a 42,000-square-foot facility in O’Fallon, Missouri and later expanded with two additional facilities in Chesterfield and Valley Park.

Garden View Care Center provides assisted living and skilled nursing services to its residents, specializing in dementia care. The mission of the organization is to deliver excellence in dementia care through quality nursing and rehabilitation in a hospitality-style environment developed around activities designed to meet each resident’s needs.

“Rich has been successful in the growth and operations at the facilities and has prospered in an industry which has been negatively affected by the pandemic,” said his colleagues. “Under his leadership, Garden View has earned a reputation as being the leader and innovator in local healthcare.”

This recognition stems from the trendsetting features in the designs of the organization’s buildings and its activity-based memory care program that was first in the market and recognized as a national model for residents with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

“The nursing home business was built to provide excellent care to the residents it serves,” said Winter, who is now president. “Not only the medical care, but to help continue the lifestyle as best as possible of the resident’s experience in their past life but with an excellence of living in a hotel with services that exist every day.”

His concept for expansion in the future revolves around offering services, activities and food services that resemble a resort and an extensive nursing staff.

He also strives to give back to the community with a special emphasis on performing arts and educational institutions.

Over the years, he has been involved with Dance St. Louis, Saint Louis University, Jazz St. Louis, the Shakespeare Festival and the Stray Dog Theatre.

Winter’s leadership and vision showcases a passion for the nursing home industry and he says he leads his staff with the motto that life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

For his commitment to providing a better life for others, Winter has been named a Titan.
