Many times a day, Christopher Maus asks himself, “What can we do better to separate ourselves from the competition?”

That mantra and mindset have led Maus to success in his role as president and managing partner of CAMCO Property Management.

“I never stop focusing on what is going to make us the best,” Maus said. “This starts with the business philosophy that I have had for the last 30 years, which is ‘What is going to make us different?’ I use this as a driver for me to work on finding solutions that put us ahead of our competition.”

Founded in 1975, CAMCO Property Management is the region’s longest-serving community management firm. The company was specifically started to provide management services to condo and homeowner associations and has developed a reputation for service and taking the headaches out of property management.

Maus and his partner purchased CAMCO in 2015, and on Jan. 1, 2017, they merged their two companies and kept the name CAMCO. Since then, the company’s revenue has grown from $3.5 million to $10 million. The company expanded into multiple states, with offices in Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Wilmington, Delaware; and Fort Washington, Havertown, Springfield and King of Prussia in Pennsylvania.

This year, CAMCO will manage 100,000 doors across southwest Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. “Our goal is always to grow, expand, learn and create a culture people yearn for,” Maus said. “It is not easy managing communities where people live or have lived for possibly decades. Not everyone likes rules in a community even though such common-sense rules are needed.”

In 2019, Maus implemented the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) to strengthen the company by providing accountability and goals. EOS helped to surface the company’s mission and core values, Maus said.

Maus also helped to build a maintenance firm that supports CAMCO clients and others, generating more than $2 million in revenue in less than five years.

“Being able to have CAMCO be a strong firm with a defined mission and core values that we truly live by is a dream come true,” Maus said.

Maus serves on the board of the Covenant House Pennsylvania. Each year for the past two years, CAMCO donated $25,000 to the Covenant House to help the homeless.

“Being able to support homeless youth in Philadelphia by raising money and bringing awareness to the Covenant House is the gift that keeps on giving,” Maus said.
