Steve Schwab

Before founding his company, Steve Schwab served for nine years as a U.S. Army Airborne Ranger, where he honed his skills as an Intelligence Analyst and worked on the New Mexico Counter Drug Task Force. After completing his military service, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science from New Mexico State University, where he served as the president of Alpha Tau Omega.

Schwab’s entrance into the vacation rental industry began unexpectedly when he traveled to Rocky Point, Mexico, to relax after graduating in 2001. While there, he did maintenance jobs for a local couple with a few rental properties. When the husband passed away, Schwab acquired the business and set the foundation for his successful career in property management.

Today, Schwab is the CEO and founder of Casago, a leading vacation rental and property management company based in Scottsdale. Over the years, Schwab has expanded the company into a multi-market operation through its franchise model. The company now represents more than 4,000 properties in 50 locations across the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean.

During the Great Recession in 2008, Schwab sold off his personal items to help keep on his employees and keep his business afloat.

“It was the right thing to do to sacrifice whatever assets I had to ensure that my team was able to make their bills,” he said. “I sold off most of everything I owned and emptied my bank accounts, making sure that they would have a job until things recovered. It was a valuable time as the people who have been with me since then have all stuck around, and I have found a lot of loyalty and love between them and me. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to sacrifice for these people, and I would never do anything different.”

Casago is committed to responsible and sustainable practices. The company works to reduce its carbon footprint, implements eco-friendly practices and promotes recycling. The company also supports local charities and organizations through donations and volunteer work. Schwab established the Mexico Children's Foundation, a nonprofit that provides medical treatments, financial assistance and educational support to hundreds of children in Mexico.

Schwab was named one of Phoenix's Most Admired Leaders in 2019 by the Phoenix Business Journal. He is a regular speaker within the vacation rental industry, particularly at events like the Vacation Rental Management Association, sharing his insights and expertise with others in the field.
