As a seasoned financial executive with more than 37 years of finance, accounting and managerial experience, Katie Scherping has demonstrated a successful track record of leading transformative growth initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings and reorganizations under Chapter 11.

Three of those years were spent at National Cinemedia, Inc., America’s movie network with annual revenues of more than $440 million. Scherping retired from her role as the chief financial officer at National Cinemedia in March 2020 but will stay on as a consultant to support the transition to the new CFO.

Her most recent endeavor is launching KLS Advisors, Inc. in 2020. Her leadership and experience in the industry is at the heart of her entrepreneurial story.

“I’ve held various financial management positions with companies in the oil and gas industry, home building, real estate development, security alarm monitoring, telecommunications, technology and restaurant industries,” said Scherping.

Scherping’s experience also included leading an international technology company through an initial public offering and a subsequent sale of the company five years later to a private equity firm. At National Cinemedia, Scherping was instrumental in providing leadership to the company as it integrated digital strategy at a time of significant disruption in the traditional media industry.

“Katie brings deep corporate governance experience through her work with corporate boards, including audit, compensation, and nominating and governance committees,” said her colleagues. “She is truly a qualified financial expert.”

Her expertise has led to honors such as the Award for Outstanding Women in Business, the CFO of the Year Award and the Outstanding Accountancy Alumni Award. Scherping is a CPA and CGMA and an active member of Financial Executives International, the American Institute of CPAs and the National Association of Corporate Directors.

Following her March 2020 retirement and launch of her new consulting firm, Scherping said she plans to join public company boards where she can use her skills as a financial expert and strategic thinker. “I’d like to continue working with women leaders to help them unleash their value in their careers,” she said.

As far as her greatest lesson learned as a leader, Scherping said that “there is nothing as powerful as a network of friends and colleagues to help contribute to the success of your career.”

For her continued success as a chief financial officer and her innovative leadership, Scherping has earned a spot as a Titan of industry.

Greatest Leadership Lesson

Learned:

There is nothing as powerful as a network of friends and colleagues to help contribute to the success your career.

Carefully watch your thoughts, for they become your words. Manage and watch your words, for they will become your actions. Consider and judge your actions, for they have become your habits. Acknowledge and watch your habits, for they shall become your values. Understand and embrace your values, for they become your destiny.
