Industry: Law

Julie Herzog has been an entrepreneur at heart since her pre-teen years when she sold candy in the halls of her junior high school in Oklahoma City. Today, she is the head of the corporate and securities practice at Fortis Law Partners, a leading Denver area law firm.

It was the encouragement of Herzog’s father, though, that led her to earn an accounting degree and later attend law school at Southern Methodist University. During her first internship year, she developed new neighborhood plans in the Dallas region as part of her work for an international law firm.

“It was the creative pursuit of solutions in that project that encouraged me to use my legal expertise in ways that leveraged my newfound talents at deal-making,” said Herzog. After earning her law degree in 1994, Herzog joined that same international firm before joining Fortis Law Partners in 2003, where she is currently the owner and principal. At the firm, Herzog works with a diverse clientele ranging from Fortune 100 corporations to startups, middle market companies and venture capital and private equity funds.

“My work at Fortis has only fueled my longtime entrepreneurial drive,” said Herzog. In addition to her work at Fortis, Herzog has launched and sold a clothing business, created an executive retreat business, and co-founded a Fortis sister company – Full Velocity Consulting.

According to her colleagues, Herzog has “used her deep understanding of workplace dynamics to better help working women by creating and implementing a flexible, family-oriented work environment at Fortis – one that rewards employees professionally and personally.”

Fortis Law Partners specializes in corporate/securities, complex commercial litigation, real estate and development, tax law and employment law. With Herzog as the leader, Fortis was honored as the Corporate Law Firm of the Year in Colorado in 2014 by both Corporate INTL and Global Experts and One of the Best Law Firms in America by U.S. News and World Report.

Since 2013, Herzog has negotiated and closed more than 100 transactions valued at over $1.5 billion on behalf of her clients. Her efforts have been recognized locally and nationally with honors such as the M&A Lawyer of the Year by ACQ Global Awards in 2017, 2018 and 2019, as well as Colorado Super Lawyers Top 50 Women from 2015 to 2019.

Herzog said that attitude is everything. “I focus on what I am in control of and accept the rest,” she said. For her leadership and steadfast success as an entrepreneur, Herzog has been named a Titan 100.
