Attorney at Law, Principal
Harness IP

Location: Clayton, MO
Founded: 1921
Industry: Legal

Joseph E. Walsh, Jr., the principal at Harness IP, has continually lobbied as an attorney to ensure people get the tools and support they need and recognition they have earned in the firm.

“When I co-founded the St. Louis office for Harness IP 21 years ago, it was important that everyone in St. Louis be treated like everyone else in the firm – irrespective of geographic location,” he said. As a result, he has been a constant proponent of ensuring that his people have everything they need to be successful.

“When you stand up for people, you win their confidence and their trust,” said Walsh. “I’ve learned this from representing clients and business owners, but also by standing up for those who support me in my practice.”

Harness IP is an intellectual property law firm with a mission to protect and advance client innovations through cutting-edge intellectual property strategies. According to Walsh, a major component of being able to help people involves being genuinely interested in people and having a genuine concern for their problems and needs. “I regard my clients’ problems as my problems,” he said. “I offer help in solving problems or in making referrals to others having different expertise than mine if that is what is required to solve that particular problem.”

With more than 35 years of experience as an IP attorney, Walsh handles all facets of patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret protection with exceptional skills in holistic portfolio management. Notably, Walsh is the lead attorney serving several of the firm’s largest clients, including a Fortune 500 company with operations all over the world and in several commercial and consumer-facing industries.

Since founding the Harness IP St. Louis office in 2000, Walsh has been named as one of the U.S. News and World Report’s Best Lawyers and most recently he was ranked among the top 5% of all lawyers in Missouri by Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers magazine.

According to his staff, what makes Walsh a Titan is his flexibility and initiative. “Joe has been exposed to nearly every intellectual property scenario that one can imagine,” they said. “His global list of clients trust him to direct and resolve their patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and unfair competition projects and issues.”

For his commitment to supporting those around him as a leader, Walsh has been named a Titan.
