Joel Carver

Chief Executive Officer
The Carver Companies

Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Founded: 2013
Industry: Hospitality

His father, mother and paternal grandmother, have always been the three major influences in Joel Carver’s life.

“These three folks instilled major values that are incorporated into The Carver Companies today,” he said. His dad taught him that when an opportunity comes, take it, even if you are not ready and his mom had a brilliant business mind. His grandmother was a pioneer for women and taught him that you can go anywhere and achieve anything you want, but “don’t ever forget where you came from.”

Pulling leadership lessons from his family is what has brought Carver success as the CEO of The Carver Companies.

The Carver Companies is a collection of brands focused on hotel profitability, job placement, education and resources. The firm provides interim placement, executive search, staff recruitment and training related to all things hospitality.

Since the company was founded as a task force organization, known as the Carver Hotel Group, the firm has grown into three business lines, spanning the United States and Canada and now preparing to operate in the United Kingdom and Europe. The firm has been recognized as one of the Top Start Up companies in Georgia and as one of INC’s 5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies in America.

Prior to founding the company, Carver served as vice president of sales and marketing for CSM Corporation. His 30 years of sales management experience encompasses work with both franchise and Fortune 500 companies including Westin, Hilton, Omni, Wyndham Hotel Group, InterContinental Hotels Group and Leading Hotels of the World.

“Considered a true change agent and an early adaptor, Joel’s drive and commitment to sales performance resulted in moving an entire portfolio from 112% annualized market share to over 118% during one of the greatest recessionary times in history,” said his colleagues. “Recognition by his peers for his commitment to excellence and aggressive drive to shift share, resulted in Joel being named one of the Top 25 Most Extraordinary Minds in Hospitality Sales and Marketing.”

His leadership style pulls from his humble beginnings and the example set forth by his family. “I am constantly reminded of what the generation before brought to our industry, the contributions of our own generation and the amazing potential of the future generations,” said Carver. “In any industry, in order to remain influential, we must first remain relevant. Remaining relevant requires us to remain current on data, trends and generational issues.”

As a young adult, like many before him, Joel enjoyed fast cars. This passion earned him more than 13 speeding tickets in one year, all over 100mph! Thankfully, as a seasoned adult, he no longer feels the "need for speed"!
