President and CEO Justin Wineburgh has transformed Alkemy X from a local postproduction studio into a media and entertainment powerhouse with expanding expertise into the hottest sectors of the industry.
Since joining Alkemy X in Philadelphia in 2016, Wineburgh has restructured the leadership team and the company’s strategic vision. He oversaw the growth of the company’s VFX division to include work on top series such as Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, establishing Alkemy X as a leader in unscripted development with original series such as TLC’s Drag Me Down the Aisle and growing the company’s slate of branded production for the likes of Bud Light, Samsung, Google, Comcast and more.
“Our frontline teams are in a better position to take care of our clients than I am, so I focus on building a culture that empowers individuals to be capable of solving problems,” Wineburgh said. “For if we are loyal to our team, the team will reciprocate with loyalty to the business which, in turn, becomes dedication to the customers and the projects entrusted to Alkemy X.”
In the coming years, Wineburgh is prioritizing strategic investments in key talent additions and market expansions that will allow the company to evolve in a constantly shifting industry. For example, the company’s research and development team is working with emerging technologies to allow the company to produce work with higher production values on accelerated time lines to increase both quality and efficiency.
Wineburgh began his career as an attorney with one of the largest law firms in the world, rising through the ranks and being named partner at 31 years old. In his practice, he served as Alkemy X’s outside general counsel from 2005, before he was asked to take over the role of president and CEO in February 2016.
Among his business accolades, Wineburgh is a published author of “The Essential Guide to Entertainment Law: Dealmaking,” was named a 40 Under 40 Winner by the Business Journal and was nominated as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist in 2019 for the Greater Philadelphia area.
He is an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization, serving on the YPO Digital Marketing and Media Network as the U.S. Northeast Region Network Champion. Wineburgh teaches at a number of universities and serves on the executive boards of various charitable and civic organizations.
“Among the greatest leadership lessons I’ve learned in my career is simply to be human,” Wineburgh said. “It all comes down to culture, and attracting, developing and retaining the right people. Especially in a creative company, where the people are the most important asset. Be honest, approachable, transparent and loyal. Connect with your teams. Know as much about them, their careers, backgrounds and personal lives as possible
