Jay Prassl

CEO and founder
Automox

Location: Boulder, Colorado
Founded: 2015
Industry: enterprise IT/IT operations

Jay Prassl doesn’t live by a motto, instead he offers more of a daily question: How do you create durable relationships between hundreds of strangers?

“Durable relationships are resilient, flexible and rewarding,” the CEO and founder of Automox said. “All things that we want to see in every working and personal relationship we have. In a company with durable relationships is the opportunity to move quickly and achieve great outcomes.“

Great outcomes is exactly what Prassl has achieved with his company. Automox is a leading cloud-native solution for IT operations. Its mission is to modernize IT systems management and help raise the world’s security confidence.

“We uphold this mission by disrupting the cybersecurity status quo through the speed and simplicity needed to outmaneuver attacks while also rewriting the rules for how resilient infrastructure can be,” the company said. “Automox’s cloud-native IT operations platform helps organizations keep every endpoint automatically configured, patched and secured from anywhere in the world. With the push of a button, IT teams can fix critical vulnerabilities faster, slash cost and complexity, and win back hours in their day.”

Prassl founded Automox in 2015 to create a solution for the most compelling pain points in the IT operations space, which was the inability for IT to see and remediate system vulnerabilities across Windows, Mac and Linux from a single platform, the company said.

Under Prassl’s vision and leadership, Automox has continued to elevate its product portfolio to provide the only fully cloud-native endpoint management platform in the industry.

Automox was named one of the “Best Tech Startups in Boulder” in 2022 by the Tech Tribune. The company also received this honor in 2021, 2020, and 2019. Automox was featured as one of the Top 100 Best Remote-First Companies to Work for in 2022 by Builtin. It was named among Denver Business Journal’s Best Places to Work in 2020.

The company also prioritizes brand values and giving back to nearby communities. Automox created a giving committee and launched Giving Fridays at the company. In September, for example, the giving committee donated $1,250 to Feeding America and $1,250 to Save the Children and stuffed 70 boxes of food via 40-plus volunteer hours.

“Jay is a groundbreaking visionary, founder and CEO who has an established track record of building and scaling high-performance companies from pre-revenue to the hyper-growth stage,” his staff said. “He has a specialized background in pre-IPO, hyper-competitive and hyper-growth environments, and a natural talent and passion for bringing new and disruptive technology to the market.”

Prior to founding Automox, Prassl was a VP of marketing at SolidFire and a national account director at HP Enterprise. He has a Bachelor of Science in environmental science and chemistry from Michigan State University. He lives with his family in Boulder.

“Being a leader, in my opinion, is not about wielding influence but rather about asking deep and thoughtful questions,” he said. “Embedded in great questions are curiosity, guidance and accountability that can be fulfilled by the listener. Great questions and the willingness to pursue them, unlocks markets, people and their inherent potential.”
