Birko Corporation

Location: Henderson, CO
Founded: 1953
Industry: Chemical and equipment manufacturer for the food safety industry

Suzan Damron is described as a solutions-driven strategist and a big-picture visionary. According to her staff, Damron, the CFO of Birko Corporation, has been crucial to a new expansion of operations in the Midwest to support the company’s largest customers.

Damron joined Birko as the CFO with 20 years of experience maximizing profitability and achieving financial and operational excellence in fast-growing and start-up environments. She currently serves on the executive team and partners closely with the CEO and president to ensure the food safety company in the protein, produce and brewer industries exceeds its strategic initiatives and customer expectations.

The CFO believes in the motto that you should never ever quit. “It’s essential as a leader to be present and available for team members for support and assistance,” said Damron. “You should always keep your team appraised of the changes, present and future.”

Damron also believes that visibility is important to maintain a connection with your team. “That way they see you in the battle arm in arm with them,” she said. And, she has shown that she is in it to win it. Since 2017, Damron has improved Birko’s balance sheet health and has contributed to its annual double-digit growth.

As a key executive group member at Vistage Worldwide, a peer mentoring membership organization, Damron believes in giving back to the community. She is also a large supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Brighton and We Don’t Waste organizations. Damron also serves on the board of directors as treasurer and executive committee member at Manufacturer’s Edge, the official representative of the MEP National Network in Colorado with the mission to encourage strength and competitiveness of Colorado manufacturers through coaching, training and consulting.

When it comes to measuring success, Damron said it’s important for leaders to watch from the sidelines and provide support to employees as needed. “Success is measured by your team’s ability to grow and learn from your willingness to let go and let them run,” she said. “When you can see your team develop and grow as leaders, receiving respect and support from their peers, you can say I am doing my job.”

For her continued success as a leader, Damron has been named a Titan of industry.
