President & Founder
Hoban Law Group
Location: Denver, CO
It was his mother’s struggle with pancreatic cancer in 2006 that prompted Robert Hoban to create Colorado’s first full service commercial cannabis-centric law firm. That firm has since gone national and international, with Gateway Proven Strategies, a subsidiary of Hoban Law Group, becoming a leading global cannabis advisory.
“We have been at the forefront of watching a movement become an industry,” said Hoban, who serves as the President, Founder and CEO. “This has happened through policy, legal and regulatory change.”
The firm focuses on developing legal and business strategies for the first cannabis dispensaries in the United States under the leadership of Hoban, with accolades that include being named a Top 7 International Cannabis Law Firm by Business Insider. Hoban is no stranger to recognition, either. He was named a Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters and has achieved the Martindale Hubble AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating that is awarded to lawyers with the highest ethical standards and professional ability.
“We guide, and we are qualified to do so because we have built the industry from the ground up,” said Hoban. “This is an opportunity that will likely only come around once in a lifetime.”
According to Hoban, real leadership identifies itself, even in uncertain times and during a global pandemic. “Real leadership is comprised of the embodiment of expertise, the exercising of sound judgment, being proactive rather than reactive and executing thoughtful decisions,” he said. “Real leadership is listening, by doing so assimilating all the available data to discern the next step.”
Hoban said that the buck stops with a real leader and he strives to lead by example while embracing the need to think globally.
“We can never forget that we are members of a global community,” he said. “The COVID pause that was felt in the early months of the pandemic provided an opportunity to zoom out. This is a time to recognize that relationships go deeper than business and it should come as no surprise that we need a global perspective now more than ever.”
That’s why Hoban continues to anticipate the unexpected and bring his team together. “There is undoubtedly a new world that is coming at us,” he said. “Our chances of success are much greater the more we come together and keep taking steps toward that light at the end of the tunnel.”
For his forward-thinking and ability to bring together a team during uncertain times, Hoban has been named a Titan of industry.
