Marcus Smiley

President and CEO
Epoch Concepts, LLC

Location: Littleton, CO
Founded: 2006
Industry: Information Technology

For Marcus Smiley, change is an opportunity for growth. He looks for reasons to say yes, rather than no and gets comfortable with being uncomfortable to realize his true potential. These core beliefs led him to launch Epoch Concepts, LLC, in 2006, where he now serves as the president and CEO.

Smiley has never backed down from change, which is why his company is focused on overcoming customer organizational challenges with solutions that don’t just address their problems but also create opportunities and competitive advantages. Epoch Concepts is a computer hardware, software, and sales organization that Smiley describes as a nimble, flat structured organization with the opportunity to make quick decisions, execute them and apply unique processes that larger competitors can’t.

“We have unique processes and ways of attracting our customer base,” said Smiley. “We take the time to understand our audience and customer base by utilizing our technical sales staff and engineering resources.”

The company focuses on three distinct areas, including solutions sales, contracts, and integration. Smiley said Epoch Concepts, LLC, is on target to continue to grow each of these areas over the next five years to quadruple annual sales with less than 150 employees.

It’s his leadership and willingness to seek out change for growth that continues to catapult the company’s success. “We must have the ability to see where we are as a company today, where we could be tomorrow with proper execution and the ability to determine well thought-out plans on exactly how to get there,” said Smiley. “If you consider that more than 70% of small businesses fail within the first 10 years, along with the fact that our company actually grew during the pandemic last year, we are well on our way to fulfilling our extraordinary growth potential.”

Smiley’s colleagues credit his knowledge and experience in the industry, as well as his quest to lead by example for the company’s success. “I believe that management should provide employees the tools they need to execute at a high level,” said Smiley. “I work for the employees – not the other way around.”

As an industry veteran, Smiley has a history of technology success. He continues to look at the market and competition to assess the opportunity for growth. Prioritizing customer service and encouraging passion is most important to him as a leader. “We stay passionate and focus on our vision and goals,” he said.

For his passion and commitment to employee and company growth, Smiley has been named a Titan of industry.
